In 1976, Alan Dean Foster was contracted to ghostwrite a novelization for Star Wars. However, he was also contracted to write a second novel, which would have been used as the basis for a low-budget sequel to A New Hope in case the first film failed. Of course, Star Wars opened to great acclaim and massive financial gain, so that sequel novel was never turned into a film. But what was this story, and does it still exist somewhere out there?
